for violin and sound reproducing media

For Ekkehard Windrich

“Greifen”, in german, to grasp, grab, get the the hold of: both a very concrete physical action and a highly abstract one. A duality which insinuates the dynamic field where our grasp of the sensitive is constituted. A shifting threshold where corporeal memories and diverse patterns of understanding coalesce.

We grasp sound in diverse ways. We grasp certain sound stimulus as materializing a space, or as a particular timbre, as a trace of bodily impressions. Greifen, throughout the sound of the violin and its interaction with instances of sound reproduction, deals with the sensitive qualities that populate our media-saturated culture.

Greifen was premiered on Sunday 1st March, 2015, within Sonic Acts Festival at the Vondelkerk, Vondelstraat 120, Amsterdam.
